Lake Tisza is as popular amongst those who like to relax in the quiet of nature as amongst water sports enthusiasts. The bird reserve of the lake is a protected natural asset.

Lake Tisza is located at the meeting point of several landscapes and four counties (Jász -Nagykun-Szolnok, Heves, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Hajdú-Bihar).

Alongside those spots suitable for fishing, bathing and water sports, there are quiet villages and settlements rich in heritage. It is an excellent starting point for trips toward the Jászaság, Greater Cumania, the Hortobágy, the South Borsod Plain (Dél-borsodi-síkság) and the Heves Plain (Hevesi-síkság). Lake Tisza has a surface of 127 square metres; it is 27 kilometres long and the total surface of the islands of the lake is 43 square kilometres. The average depth of the water is 1.3 metres and the maximum depth is 17 metres.
